Funny Feeling Friday: Paul Scholes

 Funny Feeling Friday: Paul Scholes

Paul Scholes shows us how many games he can play in one week

Manchester United looked poor against Wigan in a shocking 1-0 loss this week but that won’t stop us from selecting one of the Premier League’s best ever players as our Funny Feeling Friday selection.

Paul Scholes is owned by only 1% of fantasy managers, and rightly so – he’s a rotation risk at 37 years old – but when he plays, he makes a big difference. And he should play this Sunday at Old Trafford against Aston Villa.

He costs just 5.1M and with a full week’s rest in between every game from here on out the rest of the season, I predict that Scholes will start 4 out of Manchester United’s remaining 5 league fixtures.

At 5.1M, if he returns 1 goal, 1-2 assists, and 2-3 clean sheets in that time period, he’ll be a solid spring acquisition for any fantasy manager looking for an absolute legend as a 5th midfielder.

Yup, it’s a risk, but that’s what this column is for. Paul Scholes, to cement himself as a starter week in and week out as Manchester United wrap up the title over the next month. And to score and/or assist in the process, starting this weekend against Aston Villa.

There you have it, your aging, redheaded Funny Feeling Friday. PAUL SCHOLES.

Fantasy Premier League Gameweek 34 Preview

Fantasy Premier League Gameweek 34 Preview

Wonder if MCFC would be top of the league had they had Carlos all season...

Manchester United lost 1-0 to Wigan this week. 8 teams have a blank gameweek this weekend. The FA Cup is here. And that means we’re left to take a look at the remaining 12 Premier League teams in action – their players, and fantasy prospects. We hope you checked out our week 33 preview and benefitted from Walcott, RVP, Aguero, and Nasri. All 4 in our Best XI. Let’s dive in and unearth this weekend’s fantasy jewels…

I. Norwich @ Manchester City: Norwich are safe with 43 points and they played Tottenham off the park just a few days ago. Meanwhile, Manchester City returned to their early season ways – putting 4 past WBA at home effortlessly. Silva, Nasri, Aguero and Tevez were the main providers and all should feature prominently at Norwich. They’re all pricey, but Aguero and Silva still have relatively high ownership levels despite their recent loss of form (before the West Brom win).

Norwich have some very cheap and in form midfield studs. Elliott Bennett is just 4.8M and in form. Jonathan Howson didn’t score or assist against Tottenham but looked good and comfortable on the ball – he comes in at 5M. And Hoolahan (5M, 1.6% owned) and Holt (5.2M, 5% owned) are in form and cheap as well.

I wonder if Norwich’s gaffer, the former Celtic great Paul Lambert, will find himself in charge of Tottenham this summer and managing a Champions League team if Harry Redknapp ends up taking the England job for Euro 2012. Could be interesting. But for now, it’s a tough home fixture with Manchester City on the cards.

The game will be open. Manchester City are still 5 points behind Manchester United and will want to go from strength to strength. Don’t forget, City beat Norwich 5-1 in the reverse fixture. Norwich are better now, but they’ll still concede. I don’t expect clean sheets here.

Prediction: 3-2 Manchester City away win

II. Wigan @ Arsenal: Sunderland have Wolves at home and Manchester United have Aston Villa at home, but let’s take a surging Arsenal as our fantasy friendly pick.

Robin van Persie, Theo Walcott, and Yossi Benayoun all scored against 10-man Wolves, and you have to think those three (along with Mikel Arteta) should lead the attack against Wigan’s great GK Ali Al-Habsi.

Victor Moses is the most dangerous weapon for Roberto Martinez’s men, but I don’t think they’ll pull off the massive upset at the Emirates, even if they did just beat Manchester United at home and go toe to toe with Chelsea at Stamford Bridge. Wigan are in form, but Walcott and RVP are also at the peak of their game…

Prediction: 3-1 Arsenal

III. Studs & Duds: Sunderland lost 0-4 at Everton but you have to put their players in the “Studs” pile this weekend with a home matchup against Wolves. Sessegnon, McClean, Turner, Mingolet, Bendtner, etc. are all studs. They’re cheap – so play them with confidence despite the Everton embarassment.

Rooney and company are studs for a “bounce-back” game against Aston Villa. Valencia and Young may cede some playing time to Nani, though you have to bet that Rooney gets the start and provides the goods against Shay Given and company. Aston Villa are one of those inconsistent teams that can put together a 1-1 draw at Old Trafford or get blown off the park in a 4-0 blowout.

Swansea lost at QPR but they are studs at home to Blackburn. I think Yakubu could score in this one despite the away trip and Vorm-inator in goal, so perhaps stick with your Swansea attacking options rather than going with defensive studs.

IV. Gameweek 34 Best Eleven:

GK: Mignolet

D: Kompany – Evans – Djourou

M: Silva – Walcott – Valencia – Sessegnon

F: Rooney – RVP – Aguero

Subs: Vorm – Turner – Sigurdsson – Rangel

Fantasy Premier League Gameweek 33 Preview

Gareth Bale Tottenham Hot 007 Fantasy Premier League Gameweek 33 Preview

Bale is a doubt with an ankle problem, but will fantasy managers regret transferring him out if he plays & torches Norwich?

Arsenal took down Manchester City, and some interesting refereeing decisions helped Manchester United beat QPR and Chelsea beat Wigan, respectively…

Now the games come thick and fast and while the race for third and fourth is WIDE open (Chelsea, Arsenal, Tottenham and Newcastle gunning for just two spots) it looks like Manchester United will stroll to another title…

That said, while Manchester City may not get the “real life,” points, don’t count them out for “Fantasy Points” in the coming weeks – the schedule looks pretty tasty. Here we go…

I. Chelsea @ Fulham:  A fun London derby as Chelsea may rotate the squad a bit (with FA Cup, Champions League, and league obligations) while Fulham and Clint Dempsey are only 2 points off a place in Europe. Massive stuff, this.

Dempsey, of course, is the highest scoring midfielder in the entire fantasy game. Yes, you read that correctly. The American has 181 fantasy points. Gareth Bale is next with 172 – more on the Welshman later in the column. Dempsey is the third highest scoring player in the entire game. Only RVP and Rooney have had better seasons, statistically. Just a big “Wow” all around.

Kudos to Dempsey, who has 15 league goals this year. He had 3 strong seasons where he scored 6 goals, 7 goals, and 7 goals, and then blossomed last season – finishing with 12. He won’t reach 20 from midfield in the league this year, but he’s already eclipsed 20 in all competitions. I can’t say enough about Dempsey. And I’m surprised to be honest by his production. Most impressive – is that he’s played 2,874 minutes this year out of a possible 2,880. The most minutes by any midfielder or forward in the Premier League. He’s only missed 6 minutes of action in 32 games. 6 minutes. Yup, it helps when you’re on the field when it comes to picking up extra fantasy points… Just wow.

Anyway – back to the derby. Chelsea were in control against Wigan but fortunate to scrape by with the 2-1 win. Ashley Cole and Ramires missed out against Wigan and if they play against Fulham, that will be a massive boost for Chelsea. John Terry seems a doubt again but with the recent play of Ivanovic, and to a lesser extent Cahill and Luiz, Chelsea should be OK defensively.

It’s up front that will be interesting. Sturridge, Lampard, Drogba, Torres, and Mata will all be hoping to make an impact.

Fulham are normally sound at Craven Cottage, but I think Chelsea will have too much and despite Dempsey’s fine form, I don’t think the Cottagers win this one.

Prediction: 1-2 Chelsea away in

II. Arsenal @ Wolves: There are quite a few intriguing ‘fantasy friendly’ games this week. Manchester United are at Wigan. Manchester City could start Carlos Tevez at home to West Brom. And Tottenham are poised to put a few past Norwich at home. But we’ll stick with RVP and company.

Arsenal looked in complete control for long stretches against Manchester City. It’s amazing how far they have come after the 8-2 loss earlier in the season against Manchester United. This team would be contending for the title had they not lost Fabregas & Nasri. That said, they aren’t, but they should still take care of Wolves.

Arteta, Walcott, and RVP are the options up front – all studs. Sagna is a good one at the back, and with Koscielny injured, the Swiss stopgap Johan Djourou (5.8M) is a potential 2-week play. Many teams have a blank game week in 34, but Arsenal don’t, so investment in the Gunners for this week’s games looks sound.

Prediction: 1-3 Arsenal away win

III. Studs & Duds: On paper, Gareth Bale is out of form. But the games aren’t played on paper. On the pitch, if you’ve been actually watching the games (and we have) he has been as dangerous as ever. A nuisance. Strong, powerful, fast, just lacking that final touch – but the scores don’t show it: 2-5-3-5-3 in his last 5 games. No goals. No bonus points since January. And now, news has emerged that Bale is a doubt for Tottenham’s game with Norwich. With a blank week in game week 34, Bale could be let go by many fantasy managers. But if he plays, I predict he scores well. Bale could have the last laugh, so while he’s on the stud/dud fence as an injury risk, fantasy managers will be sweating the Tottenham – Norwich game if they do drop him.

Bale’s teammates are studs. That’s Adebayor, VDV, and Lennon.

Rooney, Valencia, Young (and to a lesser extent Nani – if he steals playing time from Young or Valencia) are studs at Wigan. Evans, it goes without saying, is a stud.

Everton are at home so Jelavic and former Funny Feeling Friday Pienaar are studs. Baines too.

Newcastle’s Cisse and Ba continue as studs. Throw Krul and Cabye in there as cheap stud options, too. Cisse is obviously the most in-form player in the league. Ignore him at your own risk.

And let’s give Swansea a shout-out. Yes, they lost 0-2 at home to Newcastle on Friday but they had the ball for like 99% of the match. It was pretty Barcelona-esque. They lacked that finishing touch, but perhaps they’ll find it at QPR. Sigurdsson and Graham will look to bounce back. Both are cheap and both play in gameweek 34.

Luis Suarez also deserves a mention. He looked dangerous against Aston Villa and was rewarded with all 3 fantasy bonus points. Blackburn are far from organized, so you have to bet that Suarez can keep it going. Stud.

IV. Gameweek 33 Best Eleven:

GK: Friedel

D: Evans – Baines – Kompany

M: Van der Vaart – Walcott – Gerrard – Nasri

F: Cisse – Aguero – RVP

Subs: Krul – Cabaye – Djourou – K. Walker

Funny Feeling Friday: Jonathan Walters

553277447walters Funny Feeling Friday: Jonathan Walters

Walters hasn't scored in the league in 2012

He’s been replaced as a fantasy “budget darling,” in the midfield months ago. He doesn’t have a goal or an assist in 12 starts! 12 starts! Not since 2011 has Stoke’s Jonathan Walters provided decent fantasy returns.

But that won’t stop us from selecting him as this weekend’s Funny Feeling Friday (slightly edging out Liverpool’s 4.8M potential starting goalkeeper Doni).

Walters was a stud earlier this season – 5 goals and 5 assists in 2011 but he’s lost form in the past 3 months. That said, he’s still getting playing time from Tony Pulis, and he’s desperate to find his form before his Euro 2012 Ireland journey. So why not this weekend against Wolves?

Sessegnon, Sinclair, Larsson, Ben Arfa, Sigurdsson, Moses and McClean are all just as cheap and in form, so Walters won’t be selected by too many fantasy managers, but Wolves have conceded 17 goals in their last 5 games! 17 goals in 5 games! Surely Peter Crouch won’t score all of Stoke’s goals…

His form is poor but his pedigree is not. He’s proven that he can win a penalty and convert one here or there, so let’s ride our luck with Walters against Wolves.

Good luck to all fantasy managers.

Fantasy Premier League Gameweek 32 Preview

Fantasy Premier League Gameweek 32 Preview

Tough to ignore Rooney & Valencia as MUFC continue a title assault

The gameweeks are coming thick and fast, and the holiday weekend is here, so let’s jump right in and preview the Fantasy Premier League studs and duds on offer. Our fantasy midfield of Bale – Dempsey – Walcott – Valencia delivered the goods last weekend – putting up some massive scores, but the fixtures get tougher this time around. Will we stick with our in-form lads or switch gears and go against the grain? Read on for the full analysis, tips and tricks…

I. Manchester City @ Arsenal: Manchester City are struggling. Sure, they scored 3 goals last weekend, but it wasn’t enough to beat Sunderland at home. A loss at Arsenal and their title hopes are basically finished. A draw or a win, though, and they’re still alive and kicking…

The obvious first name on the team sheet for Arsenal is Robin van Persie. Theo Walcott is a close second – with 4 goals and a whopping 10 bonus points in his last 6 games. Walcott is in form, but pricey, at 9.3M.

For Manchester City, Sergio Aguero should return to action. He’s too expensive to own at this point in the season, but at 10.8M, is at least worth a mention as he comes back from an ankle injury.

I can’t see a clean sheet for either side in this one but if you own the luxuriously expensive properties like Kompany, Richards, or Vermaelen, then I guess it would be hard to bench them as these “big games” always deliver surprises. The last thing on my mind is a 0-0, or 0-1, 1-0 but I’ve seen stranger…

Play your attacking options, however, and as a neutral, enjoy watching Arsenal push to solidify a Champions League spot or Manchester City keep the title race alive a few weeks longer…

Prediction: 2-2 draw

II. QPR @ Manchester United: I know Wigan were shock 2-0 winners last weekend against Stoke, but I still think Chelsea will dispose of them fairly easily at Stamford Bridge, so while I was close to selecting Fernando Torres & company as the “Fantasy Friendly” matchup of the week, I’ve gone with the more conservative selection: Manchester United at home to QPR.

The big news is that Nani is ready for a first team return, but surely Antonio Valencia and Ashley Young can’t be dropped after their goalscoring heroics earlier in the week, can they? Welbeck and Rooney are the options up front, whilst Jonny Evans is the greatest bargain Top 4 defender in the game – and has been for months now. Sure, we sound like a broken record saying it, but Nemanja Vidic isn’t coming back anytime soon, and Evans is still only owned by 12% of fantasy managers – a ridiculously low number in my opinion.

QPR, to be fair, looked solid in the upset victory over Arsenal. But a London derby, at home, against a sometimes inconsistent Arsenal side, is not the same test as an Old Trafford encounter with a team licking their lips with the title in their grasp.

For all the pre-season talk about him, Adel Taarabt managed to finally score his first goal of the season against Arsenal – on the last day of March. Ludicrous, I know, especially for such a talented player, but the 5.8M attacking midfielder will have some confidence now and could finish the season strong. Regardless, United win this one.

Prediction: 3 – 1 Manchester United

III. Studs & Duds: Who will score for Newcastle this week – will it be Cisse or Ba? Both are studs despite the road trip to Swansea in the gameweek’s first game – on Friday afternoon! Vorm is still a decent shout for those of you who own him – he’ll rack up some save points, but don’t expect a clean sheet. Stud/dud fence for the Dutch ‘keeper, then. Graham and Sigurdsson are your cheap punts for Swansea – as the team keeps the ball well at home – playing a beautiful style on the floor. No long ball stuff. Studs. Good technique.

Rooney, Valencia, Young – all aforementioned, all studs. Evans too. Mata and Torres are studs for Chelsea at home to Wigan. John Terry may miss this one with a couple of broken ribs, so Luiz and/or Cahill look good bets for a potential clean sheet.

Liverpool are out of form but this is a team that pulls out a big Anfield performance out of nowhere every once in a while. I have a feeling this is a weekend for one of those big performances. Suarez and Gerrard are studs then. Enrique too. I really think 2-3 goals past Aston Villa shouldn’t be too much of an ask…

Adebayor, VDV, and Bale are studs despite the away trip to Sunderland. The usually reliable Sessengon, McClean, Turner, Bendtner and company move to the stud/dud fence and could find themselves on many a fantasy manager’s bench.

Duds this week include a usually decent Fulham side – Dempsey, etc. travelling to Bolton. Play them if you own them after last weekend’s home heroics, but don’t expect much against a Bolton team that has improved in recent weeks. I like Everton to pull an away upset at Norwich, so Norwich players are duds for me despite the home game. Stoke should beat Wolves at home so play your Stoke defenders (Shawcross, Begovic, etc.) in that one.

IV. Gameweek 32 Best Eleven:

GK: Doni

D: Evans – G. Cahill – L. Baines

M: Valencia – Gerrard – Mata – Sigurdsson

F: Rooney – Torres – Suarez

Subs: Begovic – Bale – Shawcross – Ream

A Fantasy Manager’s Dilemma: RVP or Rooney for the (C) Armband?

A Fantasy Managers Dilemma: RVP or Rooney for the (C) Armband?

It’s the business end of the season. The title is at stake in Manchester, while Arsenal are surging – having won 7 straight in the league.

So, what’s a fantasy manager to do? Assuming the shrewd manager at this point has somehow managed to fit in both RVP and Wayne Rooney into his/her fantasy lineup, which one should get the armband? Arsenal won 3-0 last weekend against Aston Villa but RVP didn’t score or assist. Manchester United squeezed by Fulham 1-0, and while Rooney scored, he failed to pick up the bonus points… But these are the two highest scoring fantasy players in the entire game – RVP is owned by 39% of managers while Rooney is owned by 36%. Massive.

Mini-leagues are won and lost based on the “luck” of Captain decisions, so let’s delve a bit deeper into this weekend’s fantasy manager dilemma.

RVP has QPR on the road. In the reverse fixture, he scored the only goal of the game (and picked up all 3 bonus points). A simple 1-0 in a cagey matchup. Mark Hughes’ team are struggling, and they have a penchant for yellow and red cards, so perhaps the chance of a trademark RVP penalty are slightly increased at Loftus Road. That said, Arsenal have won a lower percentage of games against QPR than versus any other opponent in Premier League history (22%). That’s the bad news.

The good news? Arsenal are on a great winning streak, and QPR feature a centre back pairing of Anton Ferdinand and Nedum Onuoha – far from world class.

Wayne Rooney takes on Blackburn on the road. Manchester United are out for revenge after a shock 3-2 loss at Old Trafford to the relegation threatened Rovers. Wayne Rooney didn’t play in that one. Blackburn have conceded 62 goals this season! Ludicrous. And Rooney has scored in 4 of his last 5 league appearances against Rovers.

Blackburn GK Paul Robinson  saved just 55% of shots on target faced, the worst saves to shots ratio of any ‘keeper in the top flight. And you know what? With Young and Valencia supporting Rooney – we’re bound to see some shots on target.

Rovers have been great at home in recent months (losing just once in their last 5 at Ewood Park) but I think Manchester United have to score in this one, and with Rooney’s influence in the business end of the season, he’s almost impossible to ignore.

Sure, RVP will win the Golden Boot, and QPR are reeling, but for me, I give the slightest of edges to Wayne Rooney this weekend at Blackburn. It’s an absolute 50-50 virtual coin toss, and one that I’ve been personally struggling with all week, but after taking a look at the numbers, I recommend giving Rooney the (C) armband.

They both should score, against incredibly weak opposition, and while Rooney has disappointed in recent weeks (failing to score in the 5-0 away win at Wolves, for example) I think he contributes with a goal on Monday and rewards fantasy managers who did the unthinkable – and took the armband away from RVP.

You can’t go wrong either way, so good luck to all…

Funny Feeling Friday: Leon Osman & Steven Pienaar [SPECIAL EDITION]

leon osman everton 350770a Funny Feeling Friday: Leon Osman & Steven Pienaar [SPECIAL EDITION]

Osman has not scored a goal in 2012

I always had my sights set on an Everton player this weekend, as they’ll want to go into their FA Cup semifinal clash with Liverpool on a high – so I expect them to come out firing looking for some momentum at home against Roy Hodgson’s surprisingly solid West Brom outfit, so let’s jump right in and select both Osman and Pienaar for the first time in FFF history. I am breaking our rule this week of selecting only one player as I just went back and forth so many times between these 2 guys this week that it would be unfair to omit one or the other.

It was really process of elimination this week, if I’m honest. The likes of Jelavic (5.9M striker and only owned by 0.8% of fantasy players) and Cahill (8.5M and 1.5% owned) were the two players I’ve had top of mind all week for this column, but in the end I’ve plumped for two Everton midfielders with 3 promising fixtures on the horizon – Leon Osman and Steven Pienaar.

Osman has been “on and off” the last few seasons from a fantasy perspective – he’s provided 5-10 gameweek stretches where he has really been worth the 5.5M – 7M budget pricetag he often comes with, and this season is no different.

But he hasn’t scored a goal since 2011, and has only 2 assists the entire season. That’s just not good enough for a player of his quality, drive, and hunger. Osman is a real high energy midfielder, who at 30 years old, has been a great servant for the club and David Moyes.

Everton’s next 3 in the league are West Brom, Norwich, and Sunderland. Osman should feature prominently in the run-in and with Drenthe, Rodwell, and Coleman all out injured, should continue to see starts. I would expect a goal or assist then, over the next few weeks for the bargain midfielder.

Pienaar is slightly more expensive at 7M but is only 0.7% owned. He’s perhaps more ‘explosive’ than Osman and the reason I’d like to include him as well in this strange unique “double” FFF edition is because he is not eligible for Everton’s FA Cup games. So he’ll be fresh for the league and basically guaranteed starts the rest of the way. That’s a nice little perk.

Neither Osman nor Pienaar are players that will blow you away with a 20 point game week, but they have consistently shown over the years, that when in form, and facing opposition that aren’t too tough, they can put together 5-6 goals in a season and grab 5-6 assists. That’s a quality score (goal or assist) every 2-3 games when in form. Well, Everton’s next 3 are straightforward: West Brom, Norwich, and Sunderland, so I have a funny feeling one of these two Premier League veterans is set for a nice little run.

There you have it. The first “double” Funny Feeling Friday post in 4 years of the site’s existence. Will it be the last, too?

Good luck to all fantasy managers this weekend.

Fantasy Premier League Gameweek 31 Preview

David Silva Fantasy Premier League Gameweek 31 Preview

David Silva is out of form, can he regain his magic touch against Sunderland?

It’s getting down to the wire now. April is here in just a few days time, and it’s time for us to finish the season off with a bang. Here’s our weekend Fantasy Premier League preview.

I. Liverpool @ Newcastle: This is the encounter of the weekend for me as these two “big clubs” face off. Sure, they’ll probably both end up in the Europa League next season, not the Champions League, but they’ve offered plenty of drama this season. Newcastle are on the up after two successive wins, even though Demba Ba hasn’t scored a goal or registered an assist in six straight league starts. His loss of fantasy form, after starting the season on a quest for the Golden Boot, has been made easier on fans as new signing Papiss Cisse (6.9M and just 3% owned in the fantasy game) has 3 goals in his last 2 games.

The Magpies are the league’s surprise team this season but will find it tough to keep a clean sheet against the likes of Luis Suarez and Steven Gerrard coming to town…

That said, Cisse and Ba should provide enough ammunition up front to grab a goal or two, so a victory may not be out of the question…

Prediction: 1-1 draw

II. Sunderland @ Manchester City: Manchester City were far from dominating at Stoke last weekend, and they certainly aren’t in goalscoring form, but they should take care of Sunderland at home despite Sunderland’s great result – a 3-1 win over QPR – last weekend.

Captain Vincent Kompany is set to return from injury – which will provide a much needed defensive boost, and up front it’s just embarrassing – Aguero, Dzeko, Balotelli, and Tevez are all pushing for starts. [Update - Aguero has been ruled out due to injury.]

The difference maker could be David Silva if he steps his game up and recovers from a slight ankle knock that has bothered him on and off for months now. Silva has been a shell of the player who had the ball on a string for the first 20-25 games of the Premier League season. He’s been substituted in 3 straight games, hasn’t scored a goal since December, and has seen his fantasy price plummet from 10.5M to 10.0M. For many managers, this is the ‘last chance’ (if it hasn’t already sailed).

If Silva can grab a goal or an assist and complete 75-80 minutes in this one, he could remain a valuable fantasy asset down the stretch. But if he’s subbed off on 60 minutes again without impacting the match, the likes of Ashley Young, Gareth Bale, Juan Mata and others will start creeping into fantasy teams in his stead.

I expect Manchester City to win this one, and keep the pressure on Sir Alex’s men, who also have a fantasy friendly matchup at Blackburn.

Prediction: 3-1 Manchester City

III. Studs & Duds: Arsenal looked super at home against Aston Villa so they are all studs once again at QPR, despite the away trip to Loftus Road and derby atmosphere. RVP, Walcott, and Gibbs are the fantasy options – all studs.

Manchester United are at Blackburn – so the likes of Rooney, Young, Evans, and Valencia continue as studs. Rio Ferdinand is fit but Nani will be missing against Blackburn. Great news for Valencia owners. He’s a stud assured of a start, then.

Chelsea are at Aston Villa – who aren’t in the relegation battle, but are having a poor season by their recent standards – so Villa players continue as duds. Chelsea players are on the stud/dud fence as they’ve experienced some rotation in recent weeks. Mata has been a consistent performer in the midfield but perhaps it’s Lampard, Ramires, Meireles, or Essien’s turn to grab the highlights this week?

I like consistent midfielders Clint Dempsey and Gareth Bale as studs this week – both are at home and have proven their effectiveness over the season. Pogrebnyak is cheap and a stud as well for Fulham. Kelly at the back is worth owning because he’s such a cheap defensive stud, too.

Duds are usually reliable Swansea defenders on the road at Tottenham. Sorry, Vorm. We love you, but have to bench you this week with Adebayor, VDV, Bale, and company staring you down…

The usually cheap Norwich, Stoke, and West Brom defenders also look iffy as they’re all on the road.

IV. Gameweek 31 Best Eleven:

GK: Friedel

D: Evans – Kompany – Baines

M: Bale – Dempsey – Valencia – Walcott

F: RVP – Rooney – Tevez

Subs: Schwarzer – Mata – Kelly – AssouEkotto
