We’re going back to the Steven Fletcher well this weekend, because it’s been a fruitful one to explore in the past. This season, we started off our Funny Feeling Friday selections with a bang, and our choice of Fletcher in late August when he was only owned by 0.3% of fantasy managers – was, well, world class, if we could say so ourselves. Fletcher scored 2 goals and picked up 3 bonus points for a 13 point fantasy haul in a 2-2 draw at Swansea that day, and followed that up with three goals in his next three games – 5 goals in his first four matches. Wow.
But Fletcher has cooled off considerably since then, registering just 5 goals in the 22 gameweeks that followed his first month’s explosion. He has neither scored nor assisted in his last 4 league games. His scores read 2-2-2-2. He also faces stiff competition in the striking department from new January signing Danny Graham. That’s the bad news.
The good news? Fletcher still possesses the quality to bang them in and with a mouthwatering next three fixtures – Fulham, QPR, and Norwich – he has the platform to return a few goals.
While Fulham and Berbatov may take the headlines for their Harlem Shake, Sunderland will be confident that they can beat Martin Jol’s men – who have struggled away from Craven Cottage, this weekend.
Fletcher will be vital to Sunderland’s late season push and comes in priced at 7.1m. He just missed inclusion in our analysis of the Top 4 bargain strikers earlier this week, and with Fulham at home this weekend and QPR and Norwich to follow, expect 2-3 goals over the next 3 games – a solid return.
Steven Fletcher. Your Funny Feeling Friday.
Good luck to all fantasy managers.
