Fantasy Premier League managers and Manchester United supporters are holding their breaths… the inevitable has occurred: Robin van Persie picked up an injury at QPR today and was substituted off the pitch – replaced by Danny Welbeck, near the end of the first half.
You’ll surely hear the jokes and speculation now: “RVP injured his back as he has been carrying Manchester United all season.” “RVP is injury prone.” “Where is the horse placenta when you need it.”
The substitution looked like it was precautionary in nature, as RVP was still jogging around the pitch for a few minutes after the injury. It would be my best guess that he is rested until the second leg of the Champions League against Real Madrid at Old Trafford in 10 days time. He should miss the ‘easy’ fixture at home against Norwich next weekend – which would be a massive disappointment for Fantasy Premier League managers worldwide.
We’ll keep you updated with any new news, but we don’t expect Sir Alex to tip his cards this week, so for now it’s wait and see.
