The last time we featured Gaston Ramirez as our Funny Feeling Friday, he was 0.2% owned and had scored just 1 league goal – returning zero bonus points.
He managed 16 fantasy points over his next three games – a 5.3 ppg return – superb for a budget midfielder, but has since provided nothing more than inconsistency and niggling injuries here and there.
Ramirez’s value is down to an affordable 5.6m in the official FPL game – and with a double gameweek, he is an extremely cheap and solid short term one-week punt for those fantasy managers looking for a budget midfielder, and with perhaps a wildcard still in tact to shift Ramirez soon after the double fixture.
While teammates Jason Puncheon and Rickie Lambert have provided the more obvious route to Southampton’s attacking points, they are owned by over 23% of fantasy managers combined, so Ramirez is a dark-horse candidate to step it up this weekend – especially at Aston Villa – who have leaked goals as of late.
I wouldn’t expect much more than an assist against Aston Villa or Chelsea – but if he does return that – then it’s 4 points for 2 games played, 3 for an assist, and perhaps a bonus point for a grand total of 8 points this week. That’s a RVP-esque return for less than half the price.
For those fantasy managers without their wildcard in tact, Ramirez is less appealing. He’s up against Everton at home after the double gameweek, but then has three away trips in his next four.
8 goals for Bologna last season and just 3 so far this term. Perhaps we’ll see a wonderstrike in the coming week.
There you have it. Gaston Ramirez. Your Funny Feeling Friday.
Good luck to all fantasy managers.
