Demba Ba: Chelsea Trigger Newcastle Striker’s Release Clause

Chelsea have triggered the release clause in Newcastle forward Demba Ba’s contract.

Ba will miss today’s game at Everton and has received permission from Newcastle to speak with Chelsea.

With Fernando Torres serving as Chelsea’s only striking option up front, landing Ba will strengthen Chelsea and offer them substantial attacking depth as they push for the Premier League title – or at least Top 3.

As for Fantasy Premier League managers – owners of Fernando Torres will see his production significantly decline with rest and rotation – he has started all 19 league games for Chelsea this season – returning 7 goals – while Ba – no longer the “main man” as he was at Newcastle – may not see an uptick in his fantasy prospects either.

A fantasy lose-lose for Ba/Torres owners? Perhaps. Of course, if one or the other were to get relegated to the bench permanently, suffer a long term injury, or – in more positive news – both start together in a new 2-striker formation under Benitez, then we could see their fantasy prospects increase.

At this point, it’s just speculation, but the likes of Eden Hazard and Juan Mata could have a new clinical finisher in front of them to aim for.

Sadly Cisse is bizarrely more expensive than Ba in the fpl.com game…
