West Ham’s Andy Carroll is only owned by 0.4% of fantasy managers, and I have this sneaky feeling that he’ll score in one of his next two games [both at home] – against Arsenal and Southampton – but let’s leave the ponytailed striker for another day and put our eggs in Aroune Kone’s basket this weekend.
The Wigan striker is also owned by only 0.4% of fantasy managers, and comes in moderately priced at just 6.5M. With Dimitar Berbatov an injury doubt for this weekend’s Fulham game, fantasy managers may look to bring in a cheap, third striker. Sure, Southampton’s Lambert and former FFF Shane Long are just as cheap as Kone, and perhaps better longer term options, but that’s not what this column is all about. Lambert is well known – owned by 10% of fantasy teams, and we featured Long in this column just 2 weeks ago.
So Kone it is. The bad news? Wigan have lost three straight games in the league. They’ve been outscored 7-1 in that span. Yup. Just one goal in three games.
The good news? Kone scored that lone goal, back on September 22nd in the 2-1 loss at home to Fulham.
More bad news: Everton come to town in amazing form. They sit 2nd in the league and David Moyes’ men are playing some great stuff. More good news? Everton have lost on their travels this season, a 2-0 loss at West Brom on September 1st – so they aren’t without faults.
Kone has looked solid, certainly better than Di Santo, for Wigan this season, and the Ivorian scored 15 goals in La Liga last season for Levante. That’s no joke. 15 league goals. Surely, at Wigan, he’ll manage 8-12 if he remains healthy this season.
At 6.5m, he’s a cheap asset, and with Everton – Swansea – West Ham his next three matches, he has a good chance of picking up 2-3 goals over that time span.
He won’t be a name you’ll read much about with the likes of Lambert, Crouch, Fletcher and other high profile but cheap fantasy assets hogging the headlines, but let’s give him some love and look for a goal or two in October for Wigan’s new main man, Arouna Kone.
Good luck to all fantasy managers this weekend.

Interesting. It’s hard to get to excited about him with all the mid-priced striking options, but good luck nevertheless.
I wouldn’t say everton are on amazing form but they’re doing better than previous years. they always seem to start very slowly.
Amazing pick once again!
good pick
