While the on-loan from Chelsea Lukaku has massive upside and is owned by just 2.2% of fantasy managers, his strike partner Shane Long is even cheaper [by 0.5m] and even less popular – owned by only 1.6% of fantasy managers. He has only 1 goal in 4 starts this season.
But with an appearance this weekend against his old club Reading – where he scored about 50+ goals in a few seasons, this is a great chance for Long to break through. Reading have their backup goalkeeper Alex McCarthy in goal – a man with little experience, while West Brom will be confident going into this one at home after they’ve already won against Everton 2-0 and Liverpool 3-0 on their home ground.
This isn’t just a one-week selection, it’s a 3-week punt on the 6m rated Shane Long. An inexpensive striker with a nice run of fixtures – who is an afterthought when it comes to current FPL ownership levels. As you tinker with your teams, and look for a solid third striker, don’t forget about him.
We’re not LONG on LONG with other bargain assets like Berbatov and Fletcher looking solid acquisitions for the season, but we are definitely high on him for the SHORT term.
