Newcastle’s Steven Taylor to Miss Rest of Season

Taylor needs surgery on his injured Achilles

Newcastle’s superb start to the season has been down to their organized back four and the goalkeeping of Tim Krul. Well, that’s all about to change. Alan Pardew’s European hopes have suffered a major blow as CB Steven Taylor has been ruled out for the remainder of the season with an injured Achilles.

The 25 year old Newcastle veteran limped off against Chelsea yesterday and will need surgery to fix the problem. Captain and fellow CB Fabricio Coloccini, also limped off in the same game with a thigh strain.

For fantasy owners, it means 4.0M rated James Perch (owned by 0.0% of fantasy managers) comes into the CB equation as Mike Williamson (Taylor’s backup) is still out of action with injury problems of his own.

Newcastle are at Norwich next week, with winnable home games to follow after that against Swansea and West Brom. Perch could be a cheap beneficiary of 1 or 2 clean sheets over the next month if Krul can keep up his superb form in goal, and the defense doesn’t fall apart without Taylor.

Good luck to all fantasy managers.
