The 20-year-old wiry South Korean striker arrived at the club this summer and has scored just 1 Premier League goal this season – coming on as a second half substitute in the September loss against Chelsea. That’s the bad news.
The good news? Sunderland have a new manager Martin O’Neill – and the ‘new manager effect’ could be in place this weekend at home to Blackburn. Furthermore, the team’s recognized #1 striker, a September FFF selection, Nik Bendtner, is 50/50 with a groin injury. If Bendtner doesn’t make the match, Ji Dong-Won is almost guaranteed the start.
The South Korean costs just 4.7M in the Fantasy Premier League (cheap!) and is owned by only 0.3% of fantasy managers, and while his opposition striker Yakubu is just 1M more (5.7M) and coming off of a 4 goal game, it would be unfair to select the Blackburn man as a “Funny Feeling,” as everyone on the blog knows how much we love him – just check out the piece we penned this past summer about the friendly Yak for proof.
But back to Ji Dong-Won. Blackburn score goals, but they concede them too. He has a chance of starting under a new boss, and if he does get the full 90 minutes, he could be good for a goal or an assist to firmly entrench himself as part of this ‘new’ Sunderland lineup. Supported by the excellent Sessegnon (6.3M) in midfield, Ji should have a few opportunities, and if he puts one away, fantasy managers won’t be complaining with a pricetag of 4.7M.
So there you have it. A 4.7M fantasy rated potentially starting striker in the Premier League. Those don’t come around too often…
Ji Dong-Won, or Dong-Won Ji, your Funny Feeling Friday.
Good luck to all managers.
