Luis Suarez is suspended as Liverpool take on Newcastle at Anfield today. Andy Carroll is the man with the massive spotlight on him, and at 9.1M and owned by just 2% of fantasy managers, is a ‘funny feeling’ contender in his own right…
But let’s scrape a bit deeper. Craig Bellamy is owned by just 0.6% of fantasy managers but costs only 7.4M. He’s certainly not one to go out and buy (unless Suarez loses his appeal to the FA and he is banned for 2+ months) but he’s a good candidate for the ‘funny feeling’ and here’s why…
You can see how much playing for Liverpool means to Bellamy when he’s out there. He supported the club as a youngster and gives 100%. He only has 2 goals this season, but he did score on his last start (at Aston Villa), and we’re presuming he lines up in attack alongside Carroll tonight against Newcastle.
Bellamy only played 19 minutes against Wigan (off the bench) and 10 minutes against Blackburn (off the bench) in the Reds’ last 2 Premier League games, so his inclusion in this column is risky, but with Suarez out, let’s bet Bellamy starts…
The Welshman will be playing against one of his (many) former clubs – he starred for Newcastle between 2001 and 2005 – and he’ll have extra incentive. Maxi Rodriguez (another FFF candidate – owned by just 1.5% of fantasy managers!) is in form and should supply the attacking impetus alongside Bellamy.
I think Liverpool will control possession and beat Newcastle in a tight game, and Bellamy could provide the inspiration.
This is Bellamy’s big chance to audition for a starting spot in case Suarez’s FA appeal fails. I think he takes it by the scruff of the neck. Big game player.
Craig Bellamy to score or assist against Newcastle. There you have it.
Happy New Year.

powerful nudge but a logical one
I wouldn’t put him in. even if he does get a goal or assist, he’s bound to be rotated in the coming weeks.
you’re the same guy who knocked the the successful Ruiz FFF pick weeks ago. sit down.
Bellamy is a risk to start, but he did put in a couple of balls for Carroll when he came on against Blackburn – most notably for the left foot effort that was brilliantly saved by Bunn. At £7.4m he is too expensive to take a punt on with better priced forwards in that price bracket out there, but if you are in need of bargain to score some points this weekend, here are my top 5:

Not so sure now hun?
I liked your top5. Really out of the box and Ramsey already assisted a goal.
