Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard is poised to make a long awaited return to the starting lineup this weekend against Manchester United. Is it too early in the week for a ‘funny feeling’?
Gerrard’s groin has been a popular subject on this blog for years…. His groin scores are now ‘better than ever’ though, so perhaps the world class midfielder still has a good 12-36 months left in him at his highest levels.
Just a few seasons ago he scored 16 in the league (and 24 overall) and he’ll surely start hogging set pieces and penalties (slight downgrade to Charlie Adam, Dirk Kuyt, and Luis Suarez) going forward for Liverpool this season.
But is he a solid Fantasy Premier League purchase? At 11M, I’d take a “wait and see” approach. With David Silva and Nani both scoring for Spain and Portugal respectively over the international break, there are plenty of in-form ‘upper tier’ midfielders for you to invest in, and the 11M outlay for Stevie G seems a bit premature at this point…
That said, after the Manchester United game, Liverpool take on Norwich, West Brom, and Swansea. Nice time to make a comeback. Gerrard should have plenty of time and space to shine in those fixtures.
So, he’s back. A former fantasy footie legend of the past. Perhaps resurrected this season, perhaps not? For now, an expensive 11M question mark.
Good luck to all fantasy managers.

Its good to see Steve G back. I think i’ll be leaving it a few weeks before deciding whether to bring him into my Fantasy Football team.
It hasn’t been confirmed if he’ll start yet. I’d wait.
