Obertan moving from Manchester United to Newcastle
Newcastle continued their mini “French revolution” as Gabriel Obertan completed a transfer today from Manchester United on a 5-year deal.
The 22 year old is the fifth French-born player to arrive at St James Park this summer following the signings of Yohan Cabaye, Demba Ba, Sylvain Marveaux and Mehdi Abeid.
Obertan made 15 appearances for Manchester United last season and looked very sharp in the pre-season this summer, albeit against Major League Soccer competition. At 5.0M in the Fantasy Premier League, the winger comes into the club cheaper than the departing Joey Barton (6M) and new signing Cabaye (6M). A well priced asset then worth monitoring.
Meanwhile, Arsenal completed the signing of another (surprise) youngster – Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain from Southampton. Let’s hope, for Gunners fans sake, that he stays more fit than Theo Walcott has since his move as a teenager from the same club.
