The Community Shield is just four days away, and we can feel the excitement of a new Premier League season just around the corner.
So, as the greatest league in the world is back for another year, I figured I’d give a brief shout-out to the greatest micro-blogging and social networking service for Premier League fans in the world – Twitter.
For me, Twitter has changed the way I consume information about football, as well as interact with other supporters, and I want to invite you to get in on the fun this season.
You don’t even need to register for a Twitter account to benefit from the wealth of information that’s out there about the beautiful game. Bloggers linking to their articles, providing match previews and summaries in 140 characters or less, discussing transfer rumors, and making fun of Joey Barton.
If you are like me, and often find yourself with a ‘two-screen’ solution on the weekends – laptop on the couch and TV blasting footie, then Twitter is the perfect link. Breaking footie news comes from Twitter first, not the Guardian or Sky Sports. Sorry guys, but the guy who works at Old Trafford as a groundskeeper and has a mobile phone who sees Wesley Sneijder sneak in the back door for a medical is privy to more information than even Grant Wahl could be. [Grant Wahl is a much better journalist, but the point is not about replacing journalism at all but instead about receiving breaking news via Twitter.]
Following The World Cup via Twitter last summer was a blast. Following the Premier League’s ups and downs each Saturday and Sunday are also an emotional and informational roller-coaster.
So, there it is, if you’re looking for some Fantasy Premier League tips in ‘real time’ from me and our bloggers this year, take to Twitter. We’ll obviously save our deep analyses and thoughts for the blogs, but sometimes we can deliver in 140 characters or less an important piece of information [e.g. Balotelli looking great in Manchester City pre-season] before we have a chance to include it in an article.
So there you have it. My love-fest with Twitter continues. I hope you all join us on Twitter this season as we continue our quest for 10,000 followers and follow the action in real time. You won’t be disappointed at the Fantasy Premier League tips, banter in real time, and Dimitar Berbatov observations. See you in the TwitterSphere.
If you’re not interested in Twitter, no worries. Just join our mini-league with code 299-691 at http://fantasy.premierleague.com. See you on the virtual pitch.
