Arsenal’s Alex Song accepted a 3-match ban today for stamping on Joey Barton in the team’s 0-0 draw with Newcastle over the weekend.
Song will join suspended midfielder / forward Gervinho on the sidelines for the next few games while defenders Kieran Gibbs and Johan Djourou both limped off last night during Arsenal’s 1-0 victory over Udinese.
There is little to cheer about if you are an Arsenal fan, other than perhaps Theo Walcott’s goal last night or Robin van Persie’s fitness levels (somehow RVP is not injured) but the rest of the situation at the club looks pretty gloomy.
Arsenal need to buy and they need to buy quickly. An experienced player or two will not only deepen the squad but provide optimism for players, supporters, and the manager.
Cesc Fabregas is out the door at Barcelona. Samir Nasri has one foot in David Silva’s home in Manchester and Jack Wilshere is injured.
Arsenal are left with a fit Andrei Arshavin and Aaron Ramsey to pick up the pieces and lead the club to glory these next few weeks alongside Walcott and RVP.
Can the team handle a Liverpool attack that boasts the likes of Andy Carroll and Luis Suarez this weekend? Without Gibbs? Without Djourou? Without the tough tackling Song? Without the speed of Gervinho (and his massive forehead) on the counter-attack? I can’t imagine they’ll have an easy time.
Massive few weeks for the Gunners, and we’ll keep you updated on any developments.

As an Arsenal supporter, I don’t think I can properly express my level of frustration, both in Arsene Wenger’s lack of aggression in making offseason acquisitions to fill the gaping holes left by the departures and the poor form and bad luck on display during that first match. Unless something happens, the outlook for the year is bleak.
Is Ramsey worth the investment?
