Good veteran defender

Wes Brown, the ultimate professional, has left Manchester United. The 31 year old played 361 times for United but saw himself fall behind the pecking order of Vidic / Ferdinand / Smalling and Evans at CB. Brown also plays RB, where he has seen the Da Silva twins leapfrog him into first choice…

Brown is still a solid defender and could be joined at Sunderland by midfielder Darron Gibson and defender/midfielder John O’Shea – who could also complete moves later today – no word on whether Steve Bruce will also make a move for United’s reserve coaches, trainers, or water-carriers.

Former Manchester United players already at Sunderland include manager Steve Bruce, as well as forward Frazier Campbell, defender Phil Bardsley, and midfielder Kieran Richardson. Anton Ferdinand never played for Manchester United, but the defender’s older brother Rio knows a thing or two about Old Trafford.

So Sir Alex and Steve Bruce are ‘keeping it in the family,’ and it looks like a few very proven Premier League veterans will be making an impact at Sunderland this season despite being deemed surplus to requirements at Old Trafford.
