Shaun Wright-Phillips has started the summer off with a bang. The diminutive winger made just two Premier League starts last term under Roberto Mancini but has scored 2 goals in 2 games for the Blues on their US Tour.
Phillips’ scored against Club America on Saturday and also against Vancouver Whitecaps on Monday as Manchester City won both of their pre-season matches.
The 29 year old was a star at Manchester City a decade ago before making a big money move to Chelsea and has been capped 36 times for England – scoring 6 times, but has failed to break into the first team at City in recent seasons with the likes of Milner, Silva, Adam Johnson, and others all preferred last season.
It’s make or break time for SWP at this point in his career. Sure he scored 17 Premier League goals over two seasons for City back from 2003-2005 but that seems ages ago at this point… He even made the final 23-man roster for the 2010 World Cup in South Africa.
A player of this pedigree – at this stage of his career, deserves more than just 2 league starts. I wonder if Mancini will move SWP this summer and perhaps the little man will revitalize his Fantasy Premier League career elsewhere.
I’m excited to see if he can keep his scoring streak alive this coming weekend against former England international teammate David Beckham and the Los Angeles Galaxy – if he manages another goal from midfield, Mancini will have an even more difficult decision on his hands…
What do you think? Should SWP stay and fight for his place or leave and join a club where he can start 30+ league matches?

I think he should move to a new club, take a wage cut and play every week. But money plays a big role at clubs plus city are in the champions league so maybe he thinks he still has a shot. Personally I don’t think he does and he should move on, this is only my opinion though.
Hi Nicky good blog. Personally I think SWP should leave Man City, I don’t think he will ever be regarded as the best winger at City or even anywhere close to the rest, besides they would rather start those who cost them more.
If SWP is happy to be a fringe player, forgotten, and called when someone is injured then he should stay. If he wants to rebuild his career and help a smaller club reach new heights( which I think he should do) he should look to leave City.
Yes he should defo move on. Aston Villa maybe?
