Manchester United, Arsenal, and Liverpool all won friendly matches yesterday on their pre-season tours. Here are the match summaries as we prepare for our Fantasy Premier League season next month:
- Federico Macheda scored 2 goals, while Michael Owen and Park Ji-Sung scored a goal each as three players who probably won’t see much of the starting lineup at Old Trafford this year impressed in a rout over the New England Revolution. Michael Carrick set up 2 goals on the same day that Manchester United were named the world’s most valuable club. Ashley Young made his debut.
- Aaron Ramsey and Theo Walcott led Arsenal to a 4-0 win in Malaysia as Arsene Wenger sent out a pretty strong side. Vela and Rosicky scored in front of a crowd of nearly 70,000 fans. Nasri, RVP, and Arshavin all entered in the 67th minute and got a brief cameo for the Malaysian supporters. With RVP off the pitch, it was interesting that Ramsey stepped up to take (and score) a first half penalty.
- Liverpool lined up in a 4-2-3-1 formation in their win over Guangdong in Asia. Charlie Adam made his debut – and he bossed second half proceedings, while youngster Jonjo Shelvey ran the show in the first half for the Reds in the 4-3 win. Andy Carroll scored in the 85th minute, and if he can stay fit the entire season, will look to establish himself as a 15-20 goalscorer in the league with such great supply line coming in from the likes of Adam and others.
