Now that theĀ Fantasy Premier League has opened its doors for the season (and you can join our league with code 299-691) let’s take a look at some of the rule changes affecting the gameplay. We’ve always got your back…
Before we begin, the FPL launched with a new sleek re-design, which does away with the old look – and it remains to be seen how smooth this functionality will be as in the first few hours I’ve tinkered with the site, it’s gone up and down. I’m sure it will stabilize in the coming days.
RULE CHANGES:
- Vice Captain Introduction: Fantasy Premier League managers will now be able to choose a Captain and a Vice Captain each week. Gone are the days of choosing an automatic back-up captain based on value or form. You have two picks now – make them wisely. If, and only if, your Captain plays 0 minutes that gameweek, then your Vice Captain will come into play.
- Assists: Now given for winning a free kick from which a goal is directly scored. A minor rule change. So make sure to pick up all of those ‘divers.’
- Bonus Points now decided by Player Performance Index: Bonus points have been a point of contention on this blog and to many fantasy managers for their seemingly mysterious origin, but perhaps that will change this year as bonus points will be handed out the morning after matches have been completed and will be based on the Player Performance Index – sponsored by EA Sports… If it’s in the game, it’s in the game.
- If bonus points are tied: Examples of how bonus point ties will be resolved are as follows -
- If there is a tie for first place, Players 1 & 2 will receive 3 points each and Player 3 will receive 1 point.
- If there is a tie for second place, Player 1 will receive 3 points and Players 2 and 3 will receive 2 points each.
- If there is a tie for third place, Player 1 will receive 3 points, Player 2 will receive 2 points and Players 3 & 4 will receive 1 point each.
Everything else is business as usual. 2 wildcards again. 1 free transfer per week that can be saved. And 100M to spend on a 15-man roster. Really exciting times to be a Premier League fan and FPL manager in the coming weeks.
Good luck to all managers and stick with us throughout the season for key features and commentary on the Fantasy Premier League game, weekly previews, Funny Feeling Fridays, Butt’s Brain, and other great links and stories from the footie world. Thanks to all our readers and let the games begin.
