Chelsea’s Leading Scorer is “Own Goal”

Chelsea have played two pre-season games, and won both of them 1-0. However, they have yet to score a goal other than an own goal.

The Blues beat a Malaysia All Star XI today and also beat Portsmouth last week but both goals were scored as own goals by the opposition.

In contrast, Manchester United have scored 11 goals in two pre-season matches and looked rampant in a 7-0 win last night over the Seattle Sounders.

Wayne Rooney bagged a 21 minute hat trick last night and it’s no wonder the United star will start the Fantasy Premier League season as the most expensive player in the game – at 12M.

Chelsea’s aging stars come with hefty price-tags as well as Lampard (12M) Drogba (10.5M) Torres (11M) and Malouda (10.5M) have all been priced at the top end of the Fantasy Premier League spectrum.

If the pre-season is anything to go by, fantasy managers will be avoiding those Chelsea stars like the plague and waiting by their laptops – refreshing the FPL home page constantly, and hoping that “Own Goal” is added to Chelsea’s roster at a more affordable price of say, 8M. Judging by his pre-season exploits so far, it wouldn’t be a bad buy…

I’m really disappointed Manchester United traded Own Goal after such a break out season in ’08-’09. I’m not surprised to see Own Goal finding the net for another Top Two team.
