Here you go. A strange one. I rarely like selecting “defensive minded” midfielders in fantasy football, but let’s make an exception.
Jack Wilshere is far from a Mascherano or a Makelele. He has superb technique and with Cesc Fabregas out of action, should combine with Samir Nasri to lead Arsenal this weekend against Sunderland.
Wilshere is owned by only 3.5% of fantasy managers and has not scored a goal OR picked up an assist in the league in 2011. Not that greatest run of form, then. But there are a few silver linings for Jack.
One being his incredibly cheap pricetag of 4.9M. The next being his durability – he has started 13 straight league games. And finally, the last being that he has caught the eyes of the bonus judges with his bonus point garnering displays in February.
If Wilshere keeps up these displays and continues to pick up 90 minutes a game, he will be a great 5th midfielder for the rest of the fantasy season. At 4.9M he is dirt cheap and playing for a side challenging for the title. No other attacking player on Arsenal, Manchester United, Chelsea or Manchester City (much less Tottenham) comes CLOSE to that price range.
He may be a cyber-bully on Twitter, but he’s young, getting into form, and could pick up an assist or goal in the coming weeks to reward his fantasy investors. Look for Wilshere to pick up an assist or bonus points in one of Arsenal’s next two games – Sunderland and West Brom – in the league.
There you have it, Jack Wilshere, your Funny Feeling Friday.
