Gattuso's jersey ironically says 'Respect'

Arsenal take on Barcelona today in the glamour Champions League tie of the round, but let’s take a look back at yesterday’s AC Milan – Tottenham match and some of the standout players.

Tottenham were excellent in the 1-0 road win at AC Milan and here are our player ratings from Tottenham fan and blogger 1-1-8 who picked out Lennon and Gomes as classy performers:

Tottenham:

Lennon (MOM): 8 Was too quick for the Milan defense.  He should have seen more of the ball and his run to set up Crouch was a fair reward for all of his work going forward and tracking back.

Crouch: 7 Cool finish.  Good possession.  Lacks the pace to do better than he did.

Gallas/Dawson: 6 It wasn’t pretty, but they were solid against a fast and skilled (but narrow) attack.

VdV: 7 Great in the first half received the ball well, played great short passes and dribbled superbly.  Trickier on the ball than Robinho and Zlatan and unlucky not to score with an inspired chip.  Didn’t display the range of passing that he could have.

Sandro/Palacios: 6 Nothing special, but did their job in breaking up play and didn’t give the ball away.

Modric: 7 Great that Harry could bring on like for like during the VdV substitution early on.  Put Lennon through for the run that led to the goal.  Critical in Spurs keeping the ball and the lead after the goal.  Sublime distribution as always.

Gomes: 8 Kept Spurs in the match with two massive reactions saves.  Handled crosses well and always looked cool and in control.

Woodgate: 5.5 Played well in his first match in over a year.

AC Milan:

Despite being a maniac, Gattuso played well in his usual role.  You have to admire his craziness and that he said he was yelling at Joe Jordan in “Scottish”

Flamini should have been sent off with a straight red for the challenge on Corluka or a few other sloppy tackles after his booking.  Different club, still a jerk.

Zlatan/Robinho:  They really don’t work that hard without the ball.  Supremely talented, both.

Pato:  Looked good and surprisingly strong.

Yepes:  Played well and was unlucky not to score on two great headers.

Topless and mindless. Gattuso no longer deserves to wear the shirt.

Hahah, I finally understand…..must be a spurs fan?

Admit that Flamini’s tackle was the sort of one his old manager would disapprove of. Crazy!

  4. Frazek says:

Palacios/Sandro 6? It was largely down to their hard graft and high pressure game that stiffled Milan’s plans to get Ibra and Robinho in possession. Palacios was my MOM.

  5. Pedram says:

Flamini’s tackle was one of the most vicious I think I have seen in top flight futbol. As far as Gattuso and all the trash with him. I love Gattuso. He is the heart of ACM. That being said regardless of what someone says to you or insults you, you should not put your hands on someone else. Way too much passion in that little man!
