Benayoun Hat Trick; A Short Term Lampard Replacement?

Yossi Benayoun scored a hat trick today as Israel started off their Euro 2012 Qualifying campaign with a 3-1 win.

The Chelsea midfielder actually put the ball in the back of the net four times but one of his goals was ruled out for a handball.

Chelsea midfield star Frank Lampard (12.9M) is undergoing groin surgery and could miss Chelsea’s next match and so Benayoun (7.2M) would be the automatic replacement in the starting lineup. Ramires is another option.

The Israeli has yet to start for Chelsea in the Premier League, but has already scored for the club, grabbing a goal against Wigan.

Chelsea play at West Ham next weekend. West Ham, of course, are managed by Benayoun’s old national team manager Avram Grant and are the first team that Benayoun himself featured for in England. Seems like a decent enough reason for Chelsea’s # 10 to get the rare starting opportunity.
