England’s Final 23

Fabio Capello has done it. He has trimmed England’s squad down from 30 players to the final 23 who will be heading to South Africa.

No major surprises besides perhaps omitting Theo Walcott – a surprise inclusion back in 2006 but now a surprise omission in 2010. The winger failed to impress in training camp and was left out.

Gareth Barry, still recovering from injury, was included in the squad.

England’s Final 23 (of course) all play in the Premier League, and these are names that we count on week in and week out in our Fantasy Football struggles, but are these the names that England can count on to reach a World Cup Final – as Capello has stated is his goal?

Here is the final 23 man roster that should beat the United States on June 12th:

Goalkeepers: Joe Hart (Manchester City), David James (Portsmouth), Robert Green (West Ham).

Defenders: Jamie Carragher (Liverpool), Ashley Cole (Chelsea), Rio Ferdinand (Manchester United), Glen Johnson (Liverpool), Ledley King (Tottenham), John Terry (Chelsea), Matthew Upson (West Ham), Stephen Warnock (Aston Villa).

Midfielders: Gareth Barry (Manchester City), Michael Carrick (Manchester United), Joe Cole (Chelsea), Steven Gerrard (Liverpool), Frank Lampard (Chelsea), Aaron Lennon (Tottenham), James Milner (Aston Villa), Shaun Wright-Phillips (Manchester City).

Forwards: Peter Crouch (Tottenham), Jermain Defoe (Tottenham), Emile Heskey (Aston Villa), Wayne Rooney (Manchester United).
