I feel like it was just yesterday that Spain were waltzing through the Euro 2008 competition, with former US Vice President Dick Cheney as manager, but today we already turn our attention to 2012.
The draw for the qualifying rounds of the 2012 competition (to be held jointly in Poland and Ukraine) were released today.
While most of us are concerned with Chelsea – Arsenal (today), the Champions League (short term), and the World Cup (near term), we can still have the luxury of looking ahead a bit to what will surely be the next great footie competition after the 2010 World Cup.
Spain will meet the Czech Republic in qualifying rounds, while England (which failed to qualify for the 2008 tournament) will have a few tasty encounters with Wales. Germany is grouped with Turkey – so a few players may decide to suit up for 45 minutes each per side in that one, while France will play Romania – who they met in the 2008 Euro championships…
There are nine qualifying groups, with six containing six countries and three having five. The match program starts this September. Poland and Ukraine (as host countries) have already punched their tickets.
