A few weekend injuries to be aware of as we begin an action packed mid-week of European fixtures…
- Arsenal’s injury woes continue as Denilson is out for two months with a back injury. This means more playing time in defensive midfled for the likes of “yellow card machine” Song and “can’t finish any of my chances” Diaby. Denilson is clearly preferred over those two, but Wenger will have to stick with that pairing for now as the holding midfielders behind playmaker Cesc Fabregas.
- Liverpool’s in-form Yossi Benayoun – and everyone’s favorite Israeli footballer not named Tamir Cohen is injured as well. As is fellow midfielder Javier Mascherano. The pair will miss Liverpool’s Champions League clash against Fiorentina.
- Chelsea have injury problems as Michael Ballack (calf), John Mikel Obi (ankle) and Ashley Cole (knee) are all doubtful for the team’s Champions League match in Cyprus. Ballack and Mikel haven’t even travelled with the team, though Cole has. Didier Drogba, as usual, will just miss the match through suspension.
- Steven Pienaar has also picked up a knee injury – just as Everton are hitting top form – and his place in the lineup will probably be taken by new Russian signing “Billy” – who could well take over set pieces and corners and prove to be a great mid-priced midfield signing in the Fantasy Premier League.
