    The deep lying midfielder is an important position, but the author doesn't do a good job identifying them:

    – Makalele was never a "playmaker" just a short passer and ball winner.

    - Jenas a "world class talent": liberal use of a phrase.

    - Tom Huddlestone is one of the best long passers in the league and, at 22 years of age, has time to prove himself as a first team regular.

    Agreed. Jenas is certainly not world class.

    For me, Xabi Alonso and Carrick performed very well in that role last year…

    Yaya Toure is more of the "Makelele / Mascherano / Senna" style with great stamina, physicality, control, and short passing…

    Carrick and Alonso provide more of an offensive spark…

    There are dozens out there right now (Lass Diarra!) on the international stage – and the best ones make their teams (and attackers) look a whole lot better – really a great position to watch and give credit to.
