He’s been out over two months and faces a tough Everton this week and a battling Boro next week, so why do I still have a funny feeling about West Ham’s leading scorer, Carlton Cole?
Who knows. But what is clear is this – the 25 year old stud striker is back in the squad and looking to start this weekend after a two-month layoff with a groin problem.
This season has been a “breakout” year for Cole – who, like Stephen Ireland, has finally come of age. And sitting on 9 goals – he’d clearly love to hit double digits for the first time in his Premier League career. Footballers (strikers, especially) love personal goal milestones, and surely Cole is no different.
Thus, I think it will be the cheap Cole (5.8M) who finds the back of the net either this week or next, and takes his season tally up to 10. Tristan and Di Michele may still get plenty of minutes, and a goal or two themselves, but Cole is the man amongst boys for Zola’s forward line, and my hunch is that he’ll find his way these last two weeks.
Good luck to all managers this weekend.
